What would your life look like if your parents would have said this......

What if your parents had said this:

  • You can make your dreams come true
  • Do it your own way
  • Just try it, experiment
  • Go for your dreams, you can do it!
  • Make many mistakes and learn from it
  • Money comes to you from all sides
  • There is always time for what you want
  • Or something else. Fill in what you would have liked to have heard …..

What would your life look like?

What if your parents had told you this time after time? What would your life look like? How would you feel? What effect would this have on your money and time?

But in reality they said something like:

  • Dreams are deception, do something useful
  • Do it our way
  • Take no risk
  • Choose what is feasible
  • Do not make mistakes
  • A permanent job gives financial security
  • We do not have time for dreams
  • Or something else. Fill in what you heard again and again…….

What does your life look like now?

Did they tell you this time after time? Look at your own reality: what does your life look like now? How do you feel now? What does your money and time situation look like now? To what extent is your life a result of what your parents told you?

3 healing questions

  1. Which of the above statements bring you closer to your dreams? The first list or the second list?
  2. What example would you like to give your own children, the first or the second list? (If you do not have children: what example do you want to give your clients)
  3. Which list do you choose to live from?

Hi Annie, Thank you for sharing these lists. I very well recognize the second list from my own upbringing. For me there's only 1 answer to all your questions: List no. 1! This is what I have tried show my children (and still) and what I tell and show my clients. And in many cases I live by that list, sometimes I trip and get lost. But I ususally find my way back quickly. Warm regards, Rob

Hi Rob, thank you for your reaction. It's great that you choose list 1 and actively promote it and live by it. I know from experience that it takes a lot of inner work to solve the negative effects of list 2. At the same time, it is good to realize that you have also developed strengths and skills through it, which you can now pass on to your children and clients. If you often stand still what you have learned through list 2, then it's easier to live according to list 1! Maybe you would like to share what you learned through list 2? Hi Annie, I definitely recognise list 2 as my upbringing. The result is still visible in my life right now. It's quite a burden. Sometimes I have lovely ideas to experiment with but feel paralysed to do anything. In 1982 I went to Schoevers for a secretarial education because my dad told me that education is useful to a woman. After that I worked 25 years as a secretary and experienced burn-out. Now I'm working as a photographer (animals, iPhone and Polaroid) but I'm not very successful. I still can't make my own living. I often think about how different my life would have been if my parents taught me to live my life like list 1. It would have made a world of difference. So yes, I would love to live my life like list 1. Thanks for sharing this article. Jolanda

Hi Jolanda, thank you for your honest reaction. It's good that you are aware of the influence your upbringing has on your current life. This awareness and the choice for list 1 are the first steps to change your life and money situation for the better. Are there people in your life from whom you can learn to live according to list 1?
